Guidelines for Dr. Ravi Kant Young Investigator Award (YIA)

A. Specialist Category

Eligibility Criteria The applicant must:

  1. Be a member of the Diabetes and Endocirne Association of Nepal(DEAN) or South East Asia Diabetes Foundation (SAEDF)
  2. Be MD Internal Medicine, MD Endocrinology, Post doctoral Fellow in Endocrinology
  3. Be Age < 35 yrs
  4. Be accepted for oral or poster presentation at the SAEDFCON Annual Conference 2017.
  5. Be the first author of the submitted abstract, which must not be published before the SEADFCON Annual Conference 2017. Abstract must meet the annual conference criteria and be selected for presentation.
  6. The candidate may not submit more than one application, and may not have been a recipient of this particular award at the previous SEADFCON Conferences.

B. Open Category

Eligibility Criteria The applicant must:

  1. Be n training as an undergraduate or predoctoral student, as a resident/fellow, or a PhD/MD in the first 4 years after completion of their training, nursing, diabetes educator, dietician and allied health professionals.
  2. Be Age < 35 yrs
  3. Be accepted for oral or poster presentation at the SAEDFCON Annual Conference 2017.
  4. Be the first author of the submitted abstract, which must not be published before the SEADFCON Annual Conference 2017. Abstract must meet the annual conference criteria and be selected for presentation.
  5. The candidate may not submit more than one application, and may not have been a recipient of this particular award at the previous SEADFCON Conferences.

Evaluation Criteria

  1. Five finalists will be selected to present their abstract during an oral abstract session at the SEADFCON Scientific Sessions 2017.
  2. YIA finalists will be notified in October 20 th 2017 and are expected to submit a manuscript draft by October 20th , 2017, as part of the award selection process. Finalists may be invited to submit a manuscript for peer review and potential publication in Journal of Diabetes and endocrine association of Nepal.
  3. Presenters will be graded in four categories: importance/impact of the project in the field of outcomes research, methodological rigor, quality of the manuscript, and quality of the oral presentation.

How to Apply/Required Documents The applicant must:

  1. Submit an original abstract to the SEADFCON Annual Conference. The abstract must be in accordance with the rules and regulations for submitting abstracts and must have been submitted by the abstract submission deadline, September 30, 2017.
  2. Select the Young Investigator Competition during the abstract submission process.
  3. Email the following into the abstract submission at seadf2017bpkihs@gmail.com by the September 30, 2017
    1. One (1) recommendation letter from applicant's mentor(s)
    2. DEAN membership number or SEADF membership number
    3. CV and one passport size photograph
